Introducing Perpetual Chess Happy Hour (Weekly Adult Intermediate LEVEL ZOOM Chess Classes)🍻
When: Mid January chess classes are now in session. If you would like to be notified of future chess classes, please submit your email address at the bottom of this page.
For Whom: Any interested beginner to intermediate chess player. The class will be tailored for a rating range of 1000-1700, but anyone interested is welcome to attend. Slots per class will be limited, and similar material will be taught on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, so you should only sign up for one weekly class.
Format: Each week I will feature the games of a different well-known player. We’ll do a short bio, and then there will be tactics puzzles, positional puzzles, and even a few “red herrings,” (where there is no clear best move) from the games of that player. Following that we will do a "Q and A" about any specific chess question, study regimen question, podcast-related question or whatever you want. The classes are intended to help your chess, but also to be fun, if you want to relax and have a drink during the lesson, I won’t object. :) We will also occasionally review students games during classes.
I also encourage participants to hang out and talk chess even after I have left the zoom class, and will help to arrange rapid tournaments and training games between class participants.
Cost: The cost for 6 weeks of 90 minutes classes will be $90.
Why should you sign up for these classes? A lot of chess study can be done individually, but there are 3 things that are hard to develop strictly on one’s own:
1) The proper decision making framework to orient yourself in different types of positions
2) An idea of what to study and how much time to devote to different aspects of the game
3) A sense of community. By taking classes with like minded improvers, you can find study partners to play against and bounce ideas off of, as well as ask me any questions you may have, whether they be about a specific position or game, or about a chess improvement more generally.
How big will the classes be? Classes will require a minimum of 8 enrollees, and a maximum of 14.
How do I sign up?
Fill out the form below. Payment options are below the form. Payment is due by January 17 at 11:59 EST, and spots in the class can no longer be guaranteed if payment has not been received by then.
